You could say that our Super Latina Bren Herrera's journey from a paralegal to an award winning chef on Cleo TV's "Culture Kitchen" was not planned but it was destined. Her family left Cuba as political refugees and made their way to Washington D.C. by way of Miami. While growing up in D.C. her parents made sure to keep her connected to their culture with comida, musica, telenovelas y hablando español. This Afro-Latina embraces and shares her love of her Cuban-Jamaican roots through food and history. Today's conversation dives into the inclusion (and lack of) in the Latina and Black communities in her early years, how it made her question her identity and the challenges she still faces connecting with the Latina community. She shares why she had the courage to change her path without financial security and how an introduction and a dinner party led her to her television show. The road to the NFL started when she attended Georgetown University to study Foreign Service and International Economics. From there she worked in Politics and Fortune 500 Companies like Procter & Gamble and the Pepsico Corporation. She shares the hardships she faced within the Latina community growing up, the importance her father placed on her speaking Spanish, the power of knowing the value of your work, standing her ground to be in a meeting for a project she was leading after being told to leave, how her parents influenced her actions then and now and so much more. Activist and entrepreneur Flor Martinez has been speaking out for our Latinas (and Latinos) since she was 11 years old, alongside her mother at meetings demanding better educational options for Latin children in California. She's seen the harsh conditions migrant farmworkers face when she worked the grape fields at 15 years old. Those memories and the danger from the 2020 California wildfires prompted her to start the Celebration Nation Foundation to help provide necessities for thousands of Latino/as and their children. She shares how her mom's bravery inspires her, why she does not let the haters stop her work, the importance of unity within our community, how she plans to take it to the next level with projects in tech and more.

This Guatemalan-Irish-American has lived in Guatemala City, North Virginia, Paris, Minnesota and Paris. She shares her memories of burying her Latina identity to fit in, the cultural differences she had in school, living in Paris as a Latina compared to living as a Latina in the U.S,. the inspiration for her book about 40 influential Latinas in history and the importance of Latinas to understand their history and worth.
